Create Design

  1. Start new file
    1. Fill out job set up
    2. 5 x 15 x 0.75
    3. Discuss Z Zero and XY Datum
  2. Show “DRAW TEXT” and find a good text
    1. Enter ROCKLER all CAPS
    2. Enter height as 1.5 inches
    3. Enter anchor point
    4. Show why Century not good candidate
    5. Show why Bookman Old Style is a good candidate when BOLD
  3. Show “TEXT ON CURVE”
    1. Adjust spacing
  4. Show “CONVERT TO CURVES”
    1. Add “FILETS”
  5. Save File and then save as to create separate file for LETTERS
    1. Move letters down
    2. Resize project to 2 x 15”
    3. Save LETTER file
  6. Return to original file
    1. Group letters
  7. Add graphics
    1. Demo mirroring
    2. Reset center
    3. Properties – make 0.125 high
  8. DONE ready to make TOOL PATHS

Create TOOL PATHS for both files

  1. Set properties
    1. Tool clearance to 1”
    2. Reset datum to lower left
  2. 3D FINISHING Tool path for graphic
    1. Select tool and change properties
    2. Review menus choices
    3. Calculate
    4. Show 3D preview
  3. INLAY Tool Path
    1. POCKET set depth to 0.125”
    2. Select tool 0.125 End Mill
      1. 25 inches/min
      2. Pass depth 1/16”
      3. 30% pass over
    3. Calculate
    4. Show 3D preview
  4. Save above Tool Paths to USB drive
    1. Add tool description to file name
    2. Save ENTIRE project file
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above with INLAY – INSERT on second file with LETTERS
    1. Add offset 0.015”
    2. Set depth 3/16”
    3. Same parameters as pockets above
  6. DONE – ready to cut

Set up wood to be cut

  1. Make sure properly secured – show broken bit and hold down clamps
  2. JOG create 0,0,0
    1. Demonstrate Z set up
  3. Run file for POCKET
  4. Run file for GRAPHIC
  5. Repeat steps 1 and 2
  6. Run file for LETTERS
