October 2024 Newsletter

Message from the President
Greetings Club Members! We had a great time at the Flabob Haunted Airport 12 October. The IWW was represented well by Ernie Gonzales, Issac Rigaud, and Myself, and we spoke to a lot of new folks interested in woodworking as well as, Ken Thomas, Rick Reimer and Chris Thomas gave “hayrides” to hundreds of folks from all over the Inland Empire. It was a big hit amongst the attendees. We will begin preparing the float for the Jurupa Valley Salute to Veterans on the 9th of November. Shortly after that we will be using the float for several days of Christmas parades in December for Jurupa Valley and Fontana. If you hear of a parade we may be able to support with our float let one of your board members know about it.

At the last meeting we gave out lots of wood for toy making donated by our friend Jeff Sladick of Royal Custom Designs in Chino. We also handed out bottles of Titebond glue donated by Heather Dages of Franklin International, the parent company of Titebond. A special thank you to both. They are instrumental in providing the things we need to make more and more toys for the charities that count on us to support kids at Christmas.

We are also preparing for our toy distribution event taking place 16 November. Please press on making toys up to the 16th as we have a tremendous need for the toys you make. After November 16th reward yourself with a much-deserved break until the new year or celebrate by keeping the drive going. Either way I salute you.

A reminder that the next General Club meeting on 12 November will be our last for the year and the CNC club meeting on 2 November will be the last CNC Club meeting for the year. The General Club meeting in January will be the “Election Meeting” during which we will open nominations to members wanting to run for any board position, and we’ll conduct elections. As always, I hope to see you at both meetings on both dates.

Club Business
Club business is now listed on the Inland Woodworkers website in the Members area.

Welcome new members: Martin Daly is a friend of Ernie Gonzalez and a Vietnam veteran (thank you for your service). Martin is the vice-president of Heroes Warehouse (https://www.heroeswarehouse.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping veterans.

Isaac Rigaud is a pen turner. He has a Nova lathe and a Penn State lathe, along with a planer, bandsaw, and miscellaneous hand tools. Isaac is also making cutting boards. We look forward to seeing his work next month.

Shooting Boards: there is an Aviation Club at the Flabob airport. They are looking for help making shooting boards. The boards will be used by the kids to make ribs for airplane wings. The ribs are made from ¼” square dowels. The club currently has 40, and needs 60 more. Ken Thomas has red oak for making the shooting boards.
