Treasurer’s Report

Club treasurer Phyllis Minert presented the treasurer’s report. There were no outstanding debts or requests for payment.

Club Business
Club President Mike Trejo brought the meeting to order at 6 pm; there were 16 in attendance.

501 (C)3 Updates
The Mayor of Jurupa Valley, Guillermo Silva, was instrumental in connecting IW with the help necessary to move our application forward. We now have the support of Mirna Torres and Pamela Blynn, who are assisting us with the completion of the application forms. They provided a list of actions necessary to become a 501 (C)3 non-profit corporation.

Ken and Mike are working on the Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. Both will be shared with club members for review and a vote. They filed for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and reserved the name “Inland Woodworkers” with the state of California. The corporation will require board members. It was proposed that the current officers (President, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer), along with immediate past-president, serve as the board of directors for the corporation.

The club is required to have a physical mailing address; a post office box is not acceptable. Ken Thomas and Mike Trejo made arrangements with a mailing service to provide this. The cost will be $200 per year. Ken made a motion to utilize this service. Rick DuVall seconded the motion. After a brief discussion, a vote was taken, and the club unanimously agreed to procure this service. The club address for legal purposes will be 9036 Mission Blvd #94, Jurupa Valley, CA 90509-2816.

A club member from the CNC group donated a book, titled “The California Non-Profit Kit.”

The Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center (https://jmdc.org) may have space available for IW to set up a woodworking facility.

Ken brought up the topic of grants. In order to qualify, it will be necessary to show community involvement. Our annual toy drive is an excellent example of this. Ken recommended that we begin tracking our time spent on Inland Woodworking related tasks. For example, hours spent working on designing and building toys, and time spent supporting SkillsUSA and SWM.

Toy Parts: if you need wheels, axles, or other parts, contact Ken Thomas in advance of the meeting, and he will bring your items to the meeting.

Lumber for Toys: Royal Custom Designs (https://www.facebook.com/RoyalCustomDesigns/), located in Chino, is a manufacturer of custom furnishings. They donated a pallet of cutoffs to the club. Thanks to Rick Reimer and Mike Trejo for transporting the material. We look forward to seeing new toy designs at the June meeting.

Item for Sale: CNC member Brett Nissley has a Shark HD CNC machine for sale. It has a 4×4 bed, laser, water-cooled spindle, and 4th axis. Asking price is $2500. Please contact Mike Trejo if you are interested.

New Members: welcome Roberto Camino to IW. Roberto resides in Riverside. He started woodworking during the Covid pandemic. He built a kitchen buffet for his wife. He has a Shaper Origin router, along with miscellaneous hand tools. We look forward to seeing his woodworking projects.

Show & Tell

Mario Alvarez brought in several of the toy cars that he designed and built. Mario used a scroll saw to create these cars.

Nathan Lindsey went into his box of scrap wood and put together some very nice charcuterie boards. These are sure to claim a top price at the craft fairs.

RJ Monsma brought in a marble runner game that he is working on. This version was a proof of concept, built from lumber donated by club member Ernie Gonzalez.

Chuck Petrovich shared a crayon holder bus. He has been making this popular item for more than 10 years.

Rick DuVall shared some pictures of the base and chip rails for the craps table that he has been working on. The table will hold 10 players. He expects to be done in the next few weeks, and is looking for some chips.
