On Saturday, November 16, 2024, the Jurupa Mountain Discovery Center (https://jmdc.org) held a fund-raising event, and Inland Woodworkers was there to support the event.
The Discovery Center is instrumental in teaching pre-historic life and IW is instrumental in promoting wood working. What better way to come together than to have the visitors make Jurassic Park style offroad toys!
IW set up a booth for young adults and their parents to participate in a Make & Take event. Each person was given the parts necessary to assemble their 4×4 vehicles. The participants sanded the edges and rough surfaces, then installed the axles and glued the wheels.
Once complete, they turned in their craftwork, and received a second set of parts. The second toy, upon completion, was given to the participant as a thank you for helping the IW group build toys for its upcoming charity toy donation.
This was a great opportunity to introduce youngsters to woodworking.
The event was well attended, and participants completed more than 60 toys that will be donated to charity. Special thanks to IW members Michael Miller, Mike Trejo, Ken Thomas, and Ernie Gonzalez for their participation and assistance in working with the visitors.
